By definition a ‘professional’ is one who is paid for their services. How long it takes to become a pro musician depends on how fast you learn and who you can convince to pay you for what you know and can do.
Doug
mmmm, actually it depends.
actually, i fitted the definition of “professional” (getting paid) after my 1st year, when i joined a band. then it stopped, and then you play “unprofessionally” for a while until you find your next chance.
i can advise to not make a plan of when to become professional, but rather to get prepared when it happens. it going to take a while.
Can’t really say how long it will take, some people are just naturally better than others…
There is a thing called the 10,000 HOUR RULE which basically states you have to spend 10,000 HOURS to learn ANY PROFESSION… doesn’t matter what it is.. Doctor, Brain surgeon, musician, truck driver, airline pilot… etc.. to become a professional in ANY endeavor takes A MINIMUM OF 10,000 HOURS OF LEARNING.
You are FAR from even knowing the BASICS of playing guitar and I’m not going to waste my time telling you what particular chords are because THAT IS WHAT A TEACHER IS FOR.
If you REALLY want to be a professional.. the LEARN THE BASICS because you can only go so far without knowing them.
You cannot plan to become a professional in any task within particular period of time. It only depends on how much hard work you put into it and how much dedicated you are to your learning. Don’t plan to become a pro, rather tr to master the act of playing.
