You could join homeschool support group or get in a homeschool co-op. I talk about this in my article How to Start Homeschooling. Here’s the URL:
You could also do activities at community centers, through the Parks and Recreation department, or the YMCA. Many times these places have activities for just homeschoolers so you can meet some other people who also homeschool.

Get involved in activities such as church, boy/girl scouts, 4H, etc…
Find out if there is a homeschool group in your area and see what kinds of activities they offer. Our homeschool group offers basketball, skiing, and lots of different activities.
You might even be able to take 1 or 2 classes at a local school. Some of our homeschool group children take choir, drafting, band, etc…

Hi hop7d5,

Well this is how I get social contact. I do ballet and pointe class. Go to co-op(that is a great one you see other homeschoolers and take classes w/ them like school! ), babysit, church camp, and church.Hope this helps!

Where we are located, there are homeschooling contact people for every county.

If you go on the internet and type in your state & homeschool in a search engine, there will probably be a bunch of sites that pop up. More than likely there will be a contact person you can email or call.
The contact person knows about groups & group activities going on in your area for homeschoolers or can get you in touch with someone who does.

You can also contact the Girl/Boy Scouts about becoming involved with their group.
Also call your Parks & Rec. Department for your city. They often have info on all kinds of sports groups, activities going on, etc.,

Also, have you tried the Boys & Girls Club?

Maybe you can get involved in some extracurricular activities that aren’t tied to the public school. Lots of towns have community sports leagues. If you can’t get involved as a player, maybe you can be an assistant coach or something like that. It might not make sense to meet kids who are younger than you…until you consider that they may very well have older brothers or sisters that you can meet through them.

Organizations like scouts don’t require that you are a public school student, so that could be an option. My 15 y.o. son just joined the civil air patrol. As a member of that group, he is meeting lots of new friends and he gets to fly airplanes. It isn’t expensive either. Annual dues are low and the flight time is free.

You could also look for programs where you can volunteer in your community. Check out the yvca.org website. Their mission is to organize opportunities for people ages 11 – 18 to volunteer in community service projects. The experience of working together to accomplish a goal is a great way to bond and you don’t have to worry about how to get conversations started – you walk in the door with a common interest.

I’m home schooled under a program called k12.

The one I’m in is GVA, which means Georgia Virtual Academy. I don’t know about some of the other chains in other states, but in mine, we have outings (like field trips) that we can attend to and get to meet other students and the online teachers we have.
Check out some other home schooling programs [k12 ^^] to see if they have programs for you to meet others.
Check out local clubs and events and get involved! There are many home schoolers out there, so you just might happen upon a few people!

Don’t worry about it. This is a “problem” that mostly exists in the mind. You’ll meet more of the right types of people, though more slowly, as time goes on.

Or, I would recommend some form of entrepreneurship, such as local buying and selling. You could gain a lot of interaction that way.

Also, join a martial arts club (a valid type). It’s good for young men especially to become skilled in the fighting arts, and you could meet people with similar interests.

Or other sort of things. You don’t have to become a recluse.
