Not sure what saute is.. I know how to cook it, but the recipe calls for saute rice until brownish.
No it is not rice a roni. This is a actual recipe I found online. It’s called broccoli brown rice.

I have a feeling you are not making form a recipe but rather following instructions on the box of rice a roni.

You just cook it over medium heat with some butter until it turns brown.

Heat oil or butter and then add the rice. Cook stirring frequently until the rice grains take on a light brown color. Be sure to stir constantly as the rice can burn quickly.

The recipe should call for some sort of fat, such as olive oil or butter, probably in the neighborhood of 2 Tbsp for 2 cups of dry rice. You heat the fat in the pan on medium, then add the dry rice. Cook in the oil for a while.

The rice will eventually turn a nice brown and you will smell a toasty, nutty flavor of goodness. Be careful to add your liquid quickly once it reaches this point, because it doesn’t take much longer for it to burn.

I just boil my rice for 20 minutes, but I have a friend that frys hers first.
put some cooking oil in the bottom of a fry pan and brown it and then boil it. that was to much work for me.

Heat butter in a skillet and add rice on medium/high heat. Stir it constantly and it will start to brown up. There ya go!!
